Bulgarian New Democracy
{{Politics of Bulgaria}}
Bulgarian New Democracy ({{langx|bg|Българска Нова Демокрация}}, БНД) is a political faction in the Bulgarian National Assembly formed on 2007-12-05 by fourteen dissenters of the National Movement for Stability and Progress who claim that their former party has lost its liberal roots.[http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=88198 Bulgaria: Another MP out of Bulgaria' Ex-king Party][http://www.setimes.com/cocoon/setimes/xhtml/en_GB/newsbriefs/setimes/newsbriefs/2007/12/06/nb-02 New parliamentary group emerges in Bulgarian politics (SETimes.com)] The faction may grow to about twenty MPs, but it is not expected to threaten the ruling government's majority.[http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=88199 Bulgaria: Bulgaria's Ex-King Party Dissenters Set up New Parliamentary Group] The leader of the faction is Borislav Ralchev.
The faction did not immediately decide whether it will found its own party or whether it will join an existing party — most likely the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria[http://www.focus-fen.net/index.php?id=n128588 FOCUS Information Agency] —, but it announced that the voters would have the final word on that before the next elections are held in 2009.[http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=88203 Bulgaria: King's Mavericks Leader: New Party? Bulgarian Voters will Decide!] In the end, the party was formally established as a separate party on 11 May 2008, positioning itself in the centre-right and hoping to establish alliances with other centre-right parties.[http://www.setimes.com/cocoon/setimes/xhtml/en_GB/newsbriefs/setimes/newsbriefs/2008/05/12/nb-02 Bulgarian New Democracy party officially established (SETimes.com)]
Before the official announcement of the faction's foundation, European Liberal Initiative had been mentioned as a possible name.[http://www.setimes.com/cocoon/setimes/xhtml/en_GB/newsbriefs/setimes/newsbriefs/2007/11/30/nb-06 New political group may join Bulgarian parliament next week (SETimes.com)]
In January 2008, BND suggested it may ally with the United Democratic Forces to form a new, right-wing movement.[http://www.setimes.com/cocoon/setimes/xhtml/en_GB/newsbriefs/setimes/newsbriefs/2008/01/25/nb-06 Bulgaria's GERB to join European People's Party in early February (SETimes.com)]
