Buporthmus

{{Short description|Ancient promontory in Greece}}

Buporthmus ({{langx|grc|Βούπορθμος}}) was the name of a steep promontory in Argolis that extended into the sea near Hermione (Argolis). There was a temple dedicated to Demeter and Persephone, as well as another to Athena Promachorma (meaning "Champion of the Anchorage"). It was probably between the modern Cape Muzaki and Dokos island.[https://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.04.0064%3Aalphabetic+letter%3DB%3Aentry+group%3D10%3Aentry%3Dbuporthmus-geo Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography (1854), Buporthmus][https://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Paus.%202.34.8&lang=original Pausanias, Description of Greece, 2.34.8]
