CREB5
{{Short description|Protein-coding gene in the species Homo sapiens}}
{{Infobox_gene}}
Cyclic AMP-responsive element-binding protein 5 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CREB5 gene.{{cite journal | vauthors = Zu YL, Maekawa T, Nomura N, Nakata T, Ishii S | title = Regulation of trans-activating capacity of CRE-BPa by phorbol ester tumor promoter TPA | journal = Oncogene | volume = 8 | issue = 10 | pages = 2749–58 |date=Oct 1993 | pmid = 8378084 }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Nomura N, Zu YL, Maekawa T, Tabata S, Akiyama T, Ishii S | title = Isolation and characterization of a novel member of the gene family encoding the cAMP response element-binding protein CRE-BP1 | journal = J Biol Chem | volume = 268 | issue = 6 | pages = 4259–66 |date=Mar 1993 | doi = 10.1016/S0021-9258(18)53604-8 | pmid = 8440710 | doi-access = free }}{{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: CREB5 cAMP responsive element binding protein 5| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=9586}}
The product of this gene belongs to the CRE (cAMP response element)-binding protein family. Members of this family contain zinc finger and bZIP DNA-binding domains. The encoded protein specifically binds to CRE as a homodimer or a heterodimer with c-Jun or CRE-BP1,{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=_MgRdHPKG6sC&q=Cyclic+AMP-responsive+element-binding+protein+5&pg=PA5501|title=Cumulated Index Medicus|date=1993|publisher=U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Service, National Institutes of Health, National Library of Medicine|language=en}} and functions as a CRE-dependent trans-activator. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
