A Democrat, Glanville's victory over Republican candidate Robert Regan was considered an upset, as the Michigan's 74th House of Representatives district is typically a Republican stronghold that voted for Trump by 16 points in 2020.{{cite web|url=https://michiganadvance.com/2022/05/04/far-right-republican-robert-regan-loses-race-in-heavily-red-state-house-district/|last=Roth|first=Andrew|date=May 4, 2022|title=Far-right Republican Robert Regan loses race in heavily red state House district|access-date=May 4, 2022|website=Michigan Advance}}{{Cite magazine |last=Crosbie |first=Jack |date=2022-05-04 |title=Michigan Democrat Flips Deep-Red District After Opponent Told His Daughters to 'Lie Back and Enjoy' Rape |url=https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/carol-glanville-robert-regan-michigan-house-race-1347460/ |access-date=2022-05-04 |magazine=Rolling Stone |language=en-US}} Glanville won the seat, which had been in Republican hands since 1993, by 52%-40%.[https://www.michigandaily.com/news/elections/2022-michigan-regular-and-special-election-results-democrat-flips-seat-in-gop-stronghold/ 2022 Michigan regular and special election results: Democrat flips seat in GOP stronghold], The Michigan Daily, Irena Li, May 5, 2022. Glanville's surprise victory has been attributed to a series of controversial comments made by her opponent, Regan, who said that he told his daughters "if rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it." He also spread conspiracy theories on the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, called COVID-19 a "fake pandemic," and shared an opinion that "feminism...is a Jewish program to degrade and subjugate white men.”
Glanville's House term expired on December 31, 2022. She was elected to a full term in the newly-drawn, significantly more Democratic-leaning 84th district in the 2022 election.{{cite web |title=2022 Michigan Election Results - General |url=https://mielections.us/election/results/2022GEN_CENR.html |publisher=Michigan Secretary of State |access-date=November 29, 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221129162327/https://mielections.us/election/results/2022GEN_CENR.html |archive-date=November 29, 2022 |date=November 28, 2022 |url-status=live}} She was reelected in 2024.{{cite web|title=2024 Michigan Election Results|url=https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/votehistory/Index?type=C&electionDate=11-5-2024|publisher=Michigan Secretary of State|access-date=November 24, 2024|date=November 22, 2024|url-status=live|archive-date=November 24, 2024|archive-url=https://archive.today/20241124174348/https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/votehistory/Index?type=C&electionDate=11-5-2024}}
