Physical properties

Cerium sulfide forms yellow crystalline solid of cubic syngony crystals, space group Fm3m, cell parameter a = 0.5780 nm, Z = 4, of NaCl-type structure.{{cn|date=September 2023}}

The compound melts congruently at a temperature of 2450 °C.

Chemical properties

Cerium monosulfide has a wetting effect on metals, and it is relatively stable to metals other than platinum. It can react violently with platinum to form an intermetallic compound, platinum cerium.
