In Italy, it was assembled by the DR Motor Company from semi-knocked down kits and marketed under its own brand, as the DR2. It was introduced at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, as the third model marketed by the Italian company.{{cite web|title=La "prima" della DR al Salone di Ginevra|url=http://www.drmotor.it/archivio_news.php|publisher=DR Motor|language=Italian|date=3 March 2009|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20131217224805/http://www.drmotor.it/archivio_news.php|archivedate=17 December 2013}} It is available with 15-inch alloy rims and Euro V-compliant engine, and can be fitted with leather upholstery and an LPG kit.{{cite web|title=Modelli|url=http://www.drmotor.it/modelli.php|publisher=Dr Motor Company|accessdate=29 September 2012|language=Italian|archive-date=4 May 2015|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150504063601/http://www.drmotor.it/modelli.php|url-status=dead}}

=Australia=

File:2011 Chery J1 (S2X) hatchback (23211661882).jpg

In Australia, sales commenced in 2011 (in all states except Victoria), under the name of J1 (as Audi sells the A1 model there). The initial release price was $11,990 AUD; however, a $1,000 cashback offer was made available. This made it one of the cheapest new cars available in Australia, along with the Proton S16, Suzuki Alto and Geely MK (sold in Western Australia only).[http://www.caradvice.com.au/106555/2011-chery-j1-on-sale-in-australia/ Car Advice Australia Chery J1 on sale], Retrieved 24-02-2011.{{cite news|last=Curry|first=Iain|title=Chery light hatch touches down|url=http://www.qt.com.au/story/2011/03/04/chinese-launch-light-hatch/|accessdate=22 July 2011|newspaper=The Queensland Times|date=4 March 2011}}

It was equipped with more features for the Australian market, including 14-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, two front airbags, a six-speaker CD player, air-conditioning, electric windows and side mirrors and a rear windscreen wiper along with a strengthened body and grille. Optional features were floor mats, reversing sensors, Bluetooth connectivity and headlight covers.

Safety features such as ABS and EBD were also included; however, electronic stability control was unavailable. Because of this, the vehicle was never sold in the state of Victoria, which requires all new vehicles sold after 1 January 2011 to come with ESC. This requirement became Australia-wide as from 1 November 2013, effectively banning the car along with some others.{{cite web |author=Matt Campbell |url=http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor-news/australias-cheapest-car-axed-20131101-2wr7e.html |title=Safety laws push $9990 Chery J1 and other Chinese cars out of the market |publisher=Fairfax Media |date=2013-11-01 |accessdate=2014-01-17 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131130053821/http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor-news/australias-cheapest-car-axed-20131101-2wr7e.html |archive-date=30 November 2013 |url-status=dead }} Also, it does not have side airbags. With these shortfalls, the Chery J1 scored a three star result in Australian ANCAP tests, making it one of the equal least-safe vehicles sold in the country. Indeed, ANCAP states that it "does not recommend purchasing vehicles with less than 4 stars".{{cite web|title=Crash Test Results. Chery J1|url=http://www.ancap.com.au/crashtestrecord?Id=398|publisher=ANCAP|accessdate=22 July 2011}} A defect in the seat frame necessitated a safety recall in August 2011.{{cite web|author=CarAdvice.com.au |url=http://www.caradvice.com.au/130776/2011-chery-j1-recalled-in-australia/ |title=2011 Chery J1 recalled in Australia |publisher=Car Advice |date=2011-08-03 |accessdate=2012-01-15}}
