History

During Japanese rule in Korea, Chungmuro was known as "Honmachi".[https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b0/61/91/b0619103a61dd51baaacf74492c0ff0b.jpg Image] pinimg.com

Although many film studios have since moved from Chungmuro to the Gangnam District or other areas of Seoul, Chungmuro still symbolizes the South Korean film industry and continues to be used as a metonym for it.{{cite journal |url=http://www.asiaarts.ucla.edu/article.asp?parentid=37704 |title=Sympathy for Lady Vengeance review |journal=Cine 21 |publisher=UCLA Asia Institute |issue=513 |date=2005-08-01 |author=Soyoung Kim |others=Hyongshin Kim (trans.) |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20070216180028/http://www.asiaarts.ucla.edu/article.asp?parentid=37704 |archive-date=2007-02-16 }}
