Morgan has advocated ethical consumerism and practises yoga. He is lactose intolerant and vegetarian.{{cite web |url=https://www.theluminariesmagazine.com/colin-morgan-interview/ |title=Colin Morgan Interview - The Year of The Thoughtful, Intelligent Geek |date=9 March 2012 |last=Reid |first=Alison Jane |publisher=The Luminaries Magazine |access-date=4 March 2024}}
Morgan does not participate in social media, saying: "There's no social media or googling yourself. You only have to do it once to learn never to do it again."{{Cite web |title=Colin Morgan interview: Shakespeare has Merlin firmly under his spell |url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/theatre-features/10015761/Colin-Morgan-interview-Shakespeare-has-Merlin-firmly-under-his-spell.html |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130501124504/http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/theatre-features/10015761/Colin-Morgan-interview-Shakespeare-has-Merlin-firmly-under-his-spell.html |archive-date=1 May 2013 |access-date=1 May 2013}}
Morgan has also criticised celebrity culture:
Something has been lost somewhere along the way with the craft of story-telling ... When the creativity is overshadowed by the "business" I often feel disappointed by that. We have some amazing filmmakers who are keeping the spirit of the craft alive and that's a hub of excitement I want to be in.{{Cite web |date=24 March 2014 |title=Hackett: Colin Morgan |url=http://www.hungertv.com/feature/hackett-colin-morgan/ |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180126012734/http://www.hungertv.com/feature/hackett-colin-morgan/ |archive-date=26 January 2018 |access-date=25 January 2018}}
Charity and social action
From October 2009 until its conclusion in March 2011, Morgan was an ambassador for the A Night Less Ordinary scheme in which Arts Council England offered free theatre tickets to anyone under 26 years old.{{Cite web |title=Arts Council England |url=http://press.artscouncil.org.uk/Photos-and-resources/Colin-Morgan-talks-about-A-Night-Less-Ordinary-42f.aspx |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://archive.today/20140727030201/http://press.artscouncil.org.uk/Photos-and-resources/Colin-Morgan-talks-about-A-Night-Less-Ordinary-42f.aspx |archive-date=27 July 2014 |access-date=20 November 2009}}{{Cite web |title=Gealach Ros |url=http://gealach-ros.livejournal.com/172811.html |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://archive.today/20140727030211/http://gealach-ros.livejournal.com/172811.html |archive-date=27 July 2014 |access-date=18 July 2014}}{{Cite web |title=Arts Council England |url=http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/funding/funded-projects/case-studies/a-night-less-ordinary/ |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120202145816/http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/funding/funded-projects/case-studies/a-night-less-ordinary/ |archive-date=2 February 2012 |access-date=9 September 2009}} He contributed a painting from the Merlin: Colin and Bradley Quest series to the 2010 BBC Children in Need auction. It sold for £620.
On 9 April 2011, Morgan collected funds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital. On 9 December 2012, he was a part of the 24 Hour Musicals at the Old Vic Theatre, which brought together more than 30 actors, directors, writers and composers to create four short musicals in just 24 hours. The process culminated in four world premieres presented to an audience of more than 1,000, and raised £182,000 towards the work that the theatre does with emerging talent, schools and the community.{{Cite web |title=The Old Vic Annual 2012/13 |url=http://oldvictheatre-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/assets/File/2422.pdf |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140729084143/http://oldvictheatre-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/assets/File/2422.pdf |archive-date=29 July 2014 |access-date=18 July 2014 |website=Oldvictheatre-assets.s3.amazonaws.com}}
