The project was started in the 1980s{{cite book|title=The Comprehensive Aramaic lexicon: text entry and format manual|url=https://archive.org/details/comprehensiveara0000kauf|date=1987|location=Baltimore|last=Kaufman|first=Stephen A.}} and is currently hosted by the Jewish Institute of Religion at the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio.
