ConScript Unicode Registry

{{Short description|Encoding of artificial scripts}}

The ConScript Unicode Registry is a volunteer project to coordinate the assignment of code points in the Unicode Private Use Areas (PUA) for the encoding of artificial scripts, such as those for constructed languages.{{cite web |url=http://www.evertype.com/standards/csur/ |title=ConScript Unicode Registry |publisher=Evertype.com |access-date=2015-06-20 |archive-date=2015-06-22 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150622125251/http://www.evertype.com/standards/csur/ |url-status=live }} It was founded by John Cowan and was maintained by him and Michael Everson. It is not affiliated with the Unicode Consortium.{{cite web |title=FAQ - Private-Use Characters, Noncharacters, and Sentinels |url=https://www.unicode.org/faq/private_use.html#nonchar14 |publisher=Unicode Consortium |access-date=7 August 2023 |quote=As an example, see the ConScript Unicode Registry—a private group unaffiliated with the Unicode Consortium—which has extensive tables listing private-use character definitions for various unencoded scripts.}}

History

It is a joint project of John Cowan and Michael Everson.

Historically, it was hosted on both Cowan and Everson's websites (branded as the North American and European sites, respectively); in 2002, the site was transitioned to be hosted exclusively on Everson's site.{{cite web |title=Wayback Machine comparison (2002-01-13 vs 2002-06-15) |url=https://web.archive.org/web/diff/20020113110730/20020615183822/http://www.evertype.com/standards/csur/ |website=ConScript Unicode Registry}}{{cite web |last1=Cowan |first1=John |title=John Cowan |url=http://mercury.ccil.org/~cowan/ |publisher=Chester County InterLink |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20020724150643/http://mercury.ccil.org/~cowan/ |archive-date=2002-07-24}}
