Background

He stated that he felt more inspiration from traditional country music in the process of making this album, noted musical influence from Eric Church, and remarked that he wanted to "tell a real, honest story from the heart".{{Cite web|first=Jon|last=Freeman|url=https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/thomas-rhett-new-album-country-again-1163499/|title=Thomas Rhett Rediscovers His Country Self on the Rootsy New Album 'Country Again'|work=Rolling Stone|date=April 30, 2021|accessdate=May 2, 2021}} He said that with this album, he "was just trying to be a songwriter".{{Cite web|first=Hannah|last=Barnes|url=https://popculture.com/country-music/news/thomas-rhett-new-album-country-again-side-a-timestamp-of-today/|title=Thomas Rhett Calls New Album 'Country Again: Side A' a 'Timestamp of Today'|work=Popculture|date=April 30, 2021|accessdate=May 2, 2021}}
