Content

Cure frontman Robert Smith wrote the song in memory of his friend Billy Mackenzie, the lead singer of the new wave band Associates, who committed suicide in 1997.{{cite web|title=Dundee's alive and kicking to the magic of pop hero Billy|url=http://www.scotsman.com/news/dundee-s-alive-and-kicking-to-the-magic-of-pop-hero-billy-1-1305044|website=The Scotsman}} The title of the song does not relate directly to the lyrical content; it is an anagram of "The Cure".

Regarding its musical style, AllMusic wrote that the song "rises with early sounds of Madchester".{{cite web |url=http://www.allmusic.com/album/greatest-hits-mw0000016387 |title=Greatest Hits – The Cure | Songs, Reviews, Credits | AllMusic |last=Wilson |first=MacKenzie |website=AllMusic |accessdate=June 8, 2016}}
