Background

In an interview with Verbicide magazine,{{Cite magazine|url=https://www.verbicidemagazine.com/interview-gorillaz/|title=Interview: Gorillaz|last=Pollard|first=Nate|date=9 March 2006|magazine=Verbicide|location=New Haven, CT|publisher=Scissor Press|access-date=11 June 2025}} band members were asked if a new remix album would be produced for Demon Days as there was for Gorillaz. They answered that it was a possibility and that might involve the Spacemonkeyz again. In the same interview, they were asked if there might also be another G-Sides. Again, their answer was that it might be possible.{{cite web|url=http://gorillaz-news.livejournal.com/147108.html |title=The Greatest Band That Never Existed? |access-date=3 July 2006 |author=Pollard, Nate |date=2006|issue=16 |work=Verbicide |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110719044422/http://gorillaz-news.livejournal.com/147108.html |archive-date=19 July 2011 }} In January 2007, websites began listing a March release date for a Phase 2 B-sides album.{{cite web|url=http://gorillaz-news.livejournal.com/187844.html |title=Gorillaz new US Bsides album rumours |access-date=1 February 2007 |date=16 January 2007 |publisher=Gorillaz-Unofficial |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110719044446/http://gorillaz-news.livejournal.com/187844.html |archive-date=19 July 2011 }}{{cite magazine | url = http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/search/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003526099 | title = 2007's Best Bets: Best of the Rest of 12 Months of Tunes | access-date = 1 February 2007 | date = 6 January 2007 | magazine = Billboard | archive-date = 28 February 2008 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20080228111650/http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/search/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003526099 | url-status = dead }} One of the websites, musictap.net, later pushed this back to 3 April.{{cite web | url = http://www.musictap.net/Archives/Posts/Posts07/ArchivalPosts2007Jan2131.html | title = CDs | access-date = 1 February 2007 | date = 29 January 2007 | publisher = Musictap.net | archive-date = 13 June 2007 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20070613035359/http://www.musictap.net/Archives/Posts/Posts07/ArchivalPosts2007Jan2131.html | url-status = dead }} According to Gorillaz-Unofficial, the reaction of official parties behind Gorillaz is that the release date is just a rumour for now.{{cite web|url=http://gorillaz-news.livejournal.com/188172.html |title=Musictap says US Gorillaz Bsides album pushed back / official reaction |access-date=1 February 2007 |date=31 January 2007 |publisher=Gorillaz-Unofficial |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110719044454/http://gorillaz-news.livejournal.com/188172.html |archive-date=19 July 2011 }} On 29 August, musictap.net reported that the B-side album would be titled D-Sides and would be released on 20 November.{{cite web |url = http://www.musictap.net/Archives/Posts/Posts07/ArchivalPosts2007Aug2631.html#082907 |title = CDs |access-date = 8 September 2007 |date = 26 August 2007 |publisher = Musictap.net |archive-date = 11 October 2007 |archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20071011174605/http://www.musictap.net/Archives/Posts/Posts07/ArchivalPosts2007Aug2631.html#082907 |url-status = dead }} On 18 September 2007, the official Gorillaz fan site confirmed the release of the album, as well as unveiling the album artwork and track listing.
