Born in Wembley, London, Blanchett started his career with the Queens Park Rangers youth system, where he played from 2002 to 2004.{{cite web |title=Career history |url=http://www.uptheposh.com/people/4162/career/ |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080704145501/http://www.uptheposh.com/people/4162/career/ |url-status=usurped |archive-date=4 July 2008 |publisher=Up The Posh! |access-date=2 July 2012}} He trialled with Wigan Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers before signing for Isthmian League Premier Division Northwood at the start of the 2004–05 season. After failing to make any appearances he joined Isthmian League Premier Division rivals Hendon in December 2004, making seven appearances before the end of the season.

Blanchett signed for Harrow Borough in the summer of 2005, and having scored 1 goal in 33 appearances signed for Cambridge City of the Conference South on 3 March 2006.{{cite web |title=Daniel Blanchett |url=http://www.harrowboro.co.uk/squad.php?id=54 |publisher=Harrow Borough F.C. |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060501234307/http://www.harrowboro.co.uk/squad.php?id=54 |archive-date=1 May 2006 |url-status=dead}}{{cite web |title=Blanchett off to Cambridge |url=http://www.harrowboro.co.uk/content.php?type=news&id=191 |publisher=Harrow Borough F.C. |date=3 March 2006 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060527182719/http://www.harrowboro.co.uk/content.php?type=news&id=191 |archive-date=27 May 2006 |url-status=dead}} However, he returned to Harrow as injury cover later in the same month, making one appearance during a loan spell.
