He was the son of Lt. Col. Leopold Conville who farmed in Sahiwal Punjab on land that is now in Pakistan.{{cite web|url=https://www.thetimes.com/uk/article/david-conville-obituary-bvljl2g9t|title=David Conville obituary|date=5 January 2019|access-date=6 January 2019|website=The Times}} He was married to Philippa Gail from 1970 till her death in 1999.
