Critical reception
The project's single album, 8 Songs About a Girl, received mixed reviews from critics. Some panned Perry's vocals as too inconsistent and, at times, contrived.{{Cite web|url=https://www.popmatters.com/140797-deep-dark-robot-8-songs-about-a-girl-2496035383.html|title=Deep Dark Robot: 8 Songs About a Girl|date=2011-05-24|website=PopMatters|language=en|access-date=2020-02-05}} Others saw the duo as unrefined, but honest and promising.{{Cite web|url=https://performermag.com/new-music-and-video/reviews/record-review-deep-dark-robot/|title=Record Review: Deep Dark Robot|last=|first=|date=|website=Performer Mag|language=en-US|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200205203808/https://performermag.com/new-music-and-video/reviews/record-review-deep-dark-robot/ |archive-date=2020-02-05 |access-date=2020-02-05}} The album was also noted from its divergence from Perry's typical musical styles.{{Cite web|url=https://www.jambase.com/article/deep-dark-robot-wont-you-be-my-girl|title=Deep Dark Robot: Won't You Be My Girl?|date=2011-05-05|website=JamBase|language=en-US|access-date=2020-02-05}}
