Development is a bi-weekly peer-reviewed scientific journal in the field of developmental biology that covers cellular and molecular mechanisms of animal and plant development.{{Cite web|url=https://dev.biologists.org/|title=Home {{!}} Development|website=dev.biologists.org|access-date=2020-03-03}} It is published by The Company of Biologists. Development is partnered with Publons, is part of the Review Commons initiative and has two-way integration with bioRxiv.{{Cite web|url=https://dev.biologists.org/content/news|title=News from Development {{!}} Development|website=dev.biologists.org|access-date=2020-03-03}}

In 2009, the BioMedical & Life Sciences Division of the Special Libraries Association included Development in their list of top 100 journals in Biology and Medicine over the last 100 years.{{Cite web|url=http://dbiosla.org/publications/resources/dbio100.html|title=DBIO: Top 100 Journals in Biology and Medicine|website=dbiosla.org|access-date=2020-03-03}}

Brief history

Originally called Journal of Embryology and Experimental Morphology ({{ISSN|0022-0752}}) and established in 1953, the journal provided a periodical that would be primarily devoted to morphogenesis.{{Cite web|url=https://dev.biologists.org/content/develop/133/1/1.full.pdf|title=Development: moving on in 2006|last=|first=|date=|website=Development|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180723115630/http://dev.biologists.org/content/develop/133/1/1.full.pdf |archive-date=2018-07-23 |access-date=}}{{Cite web|url=https://dev.biologists.org/content/develop/134/1/1.full.pdf|title=Development in 2007: new developments and sad goodbyes|last=|first=|date=|website=Development|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180719211716/http://dev.biologists.org/content/develop/134/1/1.full.pdf |archive-date=2018-07-19 |access-date=}}

In 1987, the journal was renamed Development. The journal's full archive from 1953 is available online. Development is now a hybrid journal and publishes 24 issues a year. Content over 6 months old is free to read.{{Cite web|url=https://dev.biologists.org/content/about#online|title=About Development {{!}} Development|website=dev.biologists.org|access-date=2020-03-03}}
