Charlie Gray is a British photographer and director based in London.
Early life
Gray’s career began at university, where he discovered photography under the guidance of photographic book publisher Stuart Smith. Influenced by his father's record store, Andy's Records, Charlie Gray developed an early interest in visual storytelling. His mother, a vintage fashion dealer, also contributed to his appreciation for craftsmanship and aesthetics.
Career
Gray’s career began with a focus on behind-the-scenes and portrait photography, primarily in the entertainment industry. He has worked with major publications including Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Esquire. His career gained significant momentum in 2008 when BAFTA commissioned him to document their awards, leading to international work with movie studios and theatre productions.
Exhibitions
In September 2023, Gray opened a solo exhibition titled Performance at Leica Gallery in London.
