Route 202 commenced operation on 9 November 1991. It replaced route 108B from Crystal Palace. Between 1992 and 1996 part of the route was re-numbered 306 and operated direct via Westwood Hill in Sydenham. It ran jointly with route 202, and when withdrawn the 202 was increased in frequency and route 450 was extended to Lower Sydenham. On 22 August 2015, the route was converted to double deck operation using new Wright Eclipse Gemini 3s. On 19 September 2020, the route passed to Arriva London using new Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMCs.
