Allyn, chairman of National Cash Register Co., boosted overseas profits through hard work, not tariffs. N.C.R. runs 500 U.S. offices and nine foreign plants, with 1959 sales of more than $400 million. At the age of 68, Allyn travel the globe looking for market insights and hiring local talent. With John Patterson as a mentor, he learned to increase sales tenfold, expanded into post-war Europe, and reinvests in foreign markets.

The article contains Statements by Stanley C. Allyn, chairman of the U.S. delegation, at the ninth session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, which met at New Delhi, India, November 5 to December 5, together with a statement released by Mr. Allyn at New York on December 9 following his return from the conference.

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) dominates the U.S. Committee for the UN. Founded in 1919, the Institute of International Education as part of the CFR, to develop international understanding and goodwill through exchange of students, teachers, and others in the educational field.
