The Elta 2052 or EL/M-2052 is an X-Band airborne Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) fire control radar (FCR) designed for fighter aircraft to support air-to-air combat and strike missions. Currently, it is fitted in the SEPECAT Jaguar{{cite web|url=http://www.janes.com/article/73095/indian-jaguar-test-flown-with-aesa-radar|title=Indian Jaguar 'test-flown with AESA radar' - Jane's 360|website=www.janes.com}} as part of the Indian Air Force (IAF) DARIN III upgrade program.{{Cite news|last=Pubby|first=Manu|url=https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/defence/israeli-super-radars-set-to-give-desi-lca-fighter-jet-enhanced-combat-capability/articleshow/64111919.cms|title=Israeli super radars set to give desi LCA fighter jet enhanced combat capability|date=2018-05-10|work=The Economic Times|access-date=2020-03-02}} The radar is also fitted in HAL Tejas,{{Cite web|url=https://thediplomat.com/2018/12/india-selects-israeli-radar-and-electronic-warfare-suite-for-tejas-light-combat-aircraft/|title=India Selects Israeli Radar and Electronic Warfare Suite For Tejas Light Combat Aircraft|last=Gady|first=Franz-Stefan|website=thediplomat.com|language=en-US|access-date=2020-03-02}} and could also be used on other fighter aircraft such as F-15, MiG-29, Mirage 2000, and FA-50 Block 20.
The FCR is based on fully solid-state active phased array technology. The radar has multi-target tracking capabilities, able to track up to 64 targets simultaneously.{{Cite web |url=http://defense-update.com/features/du-1-07/aesaradar_2052.htm |title=EL/M-2052 AESA Radar |access-date=2009-01-31 |archive-date=2009-02-01 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090201043310/http://defense-update.com/features/du-1-07/aesaradar_2052.htm |url-status=dead }} The EL/M-2052 radar incorporates operational feedback from Israeli Air Force combat pilots.{{Cite web |last=Opall-Rome |first=Barbara |last2=Minnick |first2=Wendell |date=2015-08-17 |title=Chinese Firm Claims To Offer Israeli AESA Radar |url=https://www.defensenews.com/breaking-news/2015/08/17/chinese-firm-claims-to-offer-israeli-aesa-radar/ |access-date=2023-01-10 |website=Defense News |language=en}} In the air-to-air mode, the radar enables long-range multi-target detection and enables simultaneous weapon deliveries in combat engagements.{{cite web|url=http://www.iai.co.il/2013/33796-34455-en/ELTA.aspx|title=Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. - Groups Elta Number Products ELM-2052 Systems Airborne Fighters|website=www.iai.co.il}}
The Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) capabilities of the radar include high-resolution mapping, ground/surface moving target detection, and tracking using Real Beam Mapping (RBM), Doppler Beam Sharpening (DBS), in addition to Air to Ground Ranging (AGR). The radar system also provides long-range target detection and tracking, including target classification capabilities (RS, ISAR).{{Cite web |url=http://www.sibat.mod.gov.il/NR/rdonlyres/565576B5-74D8-48A4-88D1-1119C0E6DE71/0/sod_iai.pdf |title=Archived copy |access-date=2022-03-06 |archive-date=2014-12-21 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141221230312/http://www.sibat.mod.gov.il/NR/rdonlyres/565576B5-74D8-48A4-88D1-1119C0E6DE71/0/sod_iai.pdf |url-status=dead }}
Controversy
A Chinese company based in Beijing called NAV Technologies has marketed a radar similar to the Elta 2052. It is said to have caused an investigation in Washington for a connection between Israel and Beijing, but Elta has denied it.{{cite web|url=http://www.defensenews.com/story/defense/air-space/isr/2015/08/23/chinese-radar-strongly-resembles-israeli-product/32108793/|title=Chinese Radar Strongly Resembles Israeli Product|first=Usman Ansari, Wendell|last=Minnick|date=8 August 2017|publisher=}}
