The Echuca Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Murray Bombers, is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the Victorian town of Echuca, Victoria.

History

The Echuca Football Club was formed in 1874,{{cite web |title=1874- Epitome of News |url=https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/232495435 |publisher=Kyneton Guardian (Vic) |access-date=21 February 2021 |pages=3 |date=27 May 1874}}{{cite web |title=1874 - Bendigo Hospital |url=https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/88232068 |publisher=Bendigo Advertiser |access-date=21 February 2021 |pages=3 |date=9 July 1874}} so it could play against the Rochester Football Club which was also formed in 1874 too.{{cite web |title=1874 – Rochester Football Club |url=https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/115185426# |work=Riverine Herald|access-date=16 February 2021 |pages=2 |date=3 June 1874}}

Echuca initially wore the blue and white colours.

In 1890, Echuca won the Ryan McRAE trophy, then in 1891, Echuca East Football Club won the trophy,{{cite web |title=1891 - Football |url=https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/114691819 |publisher=The Riverine Herald (Echuca, Vic) |access-date=4 December 2022 |pages=2 |date=19 November 1891}} then in 1892, Rochester won the initial premiership and Echuca protested, which resulted in the two teams having to play a grand final match. Rochester refused to play, with Echuca travelling over to Rochester to play, but with no competing team, Echuca claimed the premiership match, after the first bounce. After much discussion, Echuca was officially declared premiers. {{cite web |title=The Aiken Football Trophy |url=https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/173680179 |publisher=Bendigo Independent |access-date=19 February 2021 |pages=4 |date=15 September 1892}}

Echuca played many matches against East Echuca Football Club in the mid to late 1890's.

The club teams currently compete in the Goulburn Valley Football League (GVFL), having initially joined in 1909. Echuca also played in the Bendigo Football League, from 1925 until 1939, then from 1949 until they returned to the GVFL in 1974.{{cite web| url=http://www.fullpointsfooty.net/echuca.htm| title=Echuca| publisher=Full Points Footy| access-date=17 May 2011| archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080724163246/http://www.fullpointsfooty.net/echuca.htm| archive-date=24 July 2008| url-status=usurped}}
