The {{lang|es|Esquina de la Información}} ({{trans|literal=yes|Information Corner}}) refers to the intersection of Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Bucareli, in Colonia Juárez, Mexico City. The name emerged due to the presence of the former headquarters of the Excélsior newspaper and, across the street, the offices of El Universal—two of Mexico's most prominent newspaper companies.

The intersection is surrounded by several notable landmarks, including the Antimonumento +43 memorial, the El Caballito sculpture, the Fuente de la República fountain roundabout, the National Lottery Building (known as Edificio El Moro), the Puerta 1808 sculpture, the Tax Administration Service headquarters (Torre del Caballito), and the Rescatemos a David y Miguel memorial. The area is served by the El Caballito BRT station.

History

The intersection originally had the {{lang|es|Glorieta del Caballito}} roundabout, which marked the northern end of Paseo de la Reforma. At its center stood an equestrian statue of Charles IV of Spain, colloquially known as {{lang|es|El caballito}} ("the little horse"). Avenida Bucareli was constructed a few years later. In 1920, El Universal inaugurated its headquarters at Bucareli 12, and two years later, Excélsior opened its own headquarters across the street, in a building designed by engineer Efrén Rebolledo,{{cite web|url=http://pd.advantinteractive.com/la-esquina-de-la-informacion/|language=es|work=Punto Destino|access-date=10 July 2024|title=La Esquina de la Información|date=4 November 2015 |archive-date=10 July 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240710230426/http://pd.advantinteractive.com/la-esquina-de-la-informacion/|url-status=live}} at Bucareli 17.{{cite web|url=https://laotraopinion.com.mx/adios-esquina-de-la-informacion/|title=Adiós, Esquina de la Información|language=es|trans-title=Farewell, Esquina de la Información|date=30 September 2016|access-date=10 July 2024|work=La Otra Opinión|archive-date=11 July 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240711050147/https://laotraopinion.com.mx/adios-esquina-de-la-informacion/|url-status=live}}

In the 1980s, Excélsior built an adjacent structure on the corner of Paseo de la Reforma, named Esquina de la Información. The name referred to its role as the distribution center for various major newspapers (Excélsior and El Universal, as well as Novedades de México, La Jornada, El Nacional, La Prensa, and El Heraldo) and magazines (Cinelandia, Alarma and Lágrimas y Risas).{{cite web|url=https://www.local.mx/ciudad-de-mexico/arquitectura/recorrido-avenida-bucareli/|title=Un recorrido por Bucareli, nuestra majestuosa y decadente avenida|trans-title=A tour of Bucareli, our majestic and decadent avenue|language=Es|work=Local.mx|first=Héctor|last=Bialostozky|date=5 May 2019|access-date=10 July 2024}}{{cite web|url=https://www.eluniversal.com.mx/opinion/mochilazo-en-el-tiempo/la-avenida-bucareli-y-su-transitar-del-glamour-las-marchas/|title=La avenida Bucareli y su transitar del glamour a las marchas|trans-title=Bucareli Avenue and its transition from glamour to marches|date=22 September 2020|work=El Universal|language=es|access-date=10 July 2024}} It was also a common spot where newsboys announced newspaper highlights before their distribution.{{cite web|url=https://www.concursoarquitectura.com/post/septimo-concurso-de-arquitectura|title=Transformando 'la esquina de la información', séptimo Concurso de Arquitectura 2017|trans-title=Transforming 'la esquina de la información', seventh Architecture Competition 2017|work=Concurso Sketchlust|date=5 December 2023 |access-date=10 July 2024|archive-date=11 July 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240711051649/https://www.concursoarquitectura.com/post/septimo-concurso-de-arquitectura|url-status=live}} Previously, the site housed a gas station.{{cite web|url=https://www.excelsior.com.mx/nacional/2016/10/02/1120153|title=Excélsior inicia nueva era|trans-title=Excélsior begins a new era|language=es|date=2 October 2016|work=Excélsior|access-date=10 July 2024|first=JC|last=Vargas}}{{cite web|url=https://www.eluniversal.com.mx/galeria/metropoli/cdmx/la-ciudad-en-el-tiempo-la-colonia-juarez-cumple-112-anos-parte-2/|title=La Ciudad en el Tiempo: la colonia Juárez cumple 112 años, parte 2|trans-title=The city through time: Colonia Juarez turns 112 years old, part 2|date=1 April 2018|work=El Universal|access-date=10 July 2024|language=es}} On 1 October 2016, Excélsior ceased its operations in the building and relocated its headquarters near Ciudad Universitaria.{{cite web|url=https://www.chilango.com/ciudad/nota/2016/10/02/desocupa-excelsior-la-esquina-de-la-informacion|title=Desocupa Excélsior la 'esquina de la información'|trans-title=Excélsior vacates the 'esquina de la información'|date=2 October 2016|work=Chilango|language=es|access-date=10 July 2024|archive-date=24 July 2023|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230724083708/https://www.chilango.com/ciudad/nota/2016/10/02/desocupa-excelsior-la-esquina-de-la-informacion|url-status=live}} The property was sold to Jones Lang LaSalle and by that year plans were underway to transform it into a mixed-use development called Reforma 10.{{cite web|url=https://obras.expansion.mx/inmobiliario/2016/10/04/convertiran-esquina-de-la-informacion-en-torre-de-usos-multiples|title=Convertirán 'esquina de la información' en torre de usos múltiples|trans-title='Esquina de la información' to be converted into mixed-use tower|language=es|work=Expansión|date=4 October 2016|access-date=10 July 2024}}{{cite web|url=https://www.elfinanciero.com.mx/empresas/convertirian-esquina-de-la-informacion-en-torre-de-usos-multiples/|title=Convertirían 'esquina de la información' en torre de usos múltiples|date=3 October 2016|access-date=10 July 2024|first=Stephanie|last=Cuevas|work=El Financiero|trans-title='Esquina de la información' might be converted into mixed-use tower|archive-date=24 July 2023|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230724083710/https://www.elfinanciero.com.mx/empresas/convertirian-esquina-de-la-informacion-en-torre-de-usos-multiples/|url-status=live}} However, as of 2019, no significant changes had occurred.{{cite web|url=https://www.proceso.com.mx/reportajes/2019/2/8/atentado-cultural-contra-inmuebles-del-centro-historico-en-sexenio-de-mancera-219958.html|title=Atentado cultural contra inmuebles del Centro Histórico en sexenio de Mancera|trans-title=Cultural attack against buildings in the historic center during Mancera's six-year term in office|first=Sara|last=Pantoja|work=Proceso|date=8 February 2019|access-date=10 July 2024|language=es|archive-date=11 July 2024|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240711054039/https://www.proceso.com.mx/reportajes/2019/2/8/atentado-cultural-contra-inmuebles-del-centro-historico-en-sexenio-de-mancera-219958.html|url-status=live}}
