Critical reception
The Los Angeles Times wrote that the album's "fab pop tunes are as cheesily amusing as a dubbed karate movie. But when the kitsch clears, you have to wonder whether the band ... has anything of its own to offer."{{Cite web|url=https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1995-10-01-ca-51921-story.html|title=Album Review : * * 1/2 Urge Overkill; "Exit the Dragon"; Geffen|date=October 1, 1995|website=Los Angeles Times}} The Chicago Tribune praised "the kind of understated, seemingly casual performances that bespeak a band less interested in dazzle than emotional immediacy, with sturdy melodies, raggedly poignant vocals and brooding lyrics."{{Cite web|url=https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1995-10-08-9510080039-story.html|title=Urge Overkill's 'Exit the Dragon' Sneaks Up on You|first=Greg|last=Kot|website=chicagotribune.com}}
