Geography

Fardhem is the name of the socken as well as the district. It is also the name of the small village surrounding the medieval Fardhem Church,{{cite book|last1=Lagerlöf|first1=Erland|last2= Svahnström|first2=Gunnar|title=Gotlands kyrkor|language=sv|year=1973|publisher=Rabén & Sjögren|location=Uddevalla|isbn=91-29-41035-5|id={{LIBRIS|7232718}}|pages=133–134}} sometimes referred to as Fardhem kyrkby. It is situated on southern Gotland about {{convert|2|km|mi|abbr=on}} northwest of Hemse. Most of the socken consists of farmed plains on land reclaimed from the drained Mästermyr to the south.{{cite book|last=Sjögren|first=Otto|date=1931|title=Sverige geografisk beskrivning del 2 Östergötlands, Jönköpings, Kronobergs, Kalmar och Gotlands län|location=Stockholm|publisher=Wahlström & Widstrand|id={{LIBRIS|9939}}}}{{cite web|title=Fardhem|url=http://www.ne.se/uppslagsverk/encyklopedi/l%C3%A5ng/fardhem|website=www.ne.se|publisher=Nationalencyklopedin|access-date=24 April 2016}} Many of the farmed fields still have the same boundaries as in the 18th century.

In the middle of Fardhem is the Sandarve kulle nature reserve. Situated on a hill it covers {{convert|15|ha|acre|abbr=on}} at an elevation of about {{convert|60|m|ft|abbr=on}}. It was established in 1984.{{cite web|last1=Pettersson|first1=Lena|title=Sandarve kulle|url=http://www.lansstyrelsen.se/gotland/Sv/djur-och-natur/skyddad-natur/naturreservat/sandarve-kulle/Pages/index.aspx|website=www.lansstyrelsen.se|publisher=County administrative boards of Sweden|access-date=24 April 2016}}

{{As of|2019}}, Fardhem Church belongs to Fardhem parish in Fardhems pastorat.{{cite web |title=Församlingar på Gotland |url=https://www.svenskakyrkan.se/visbystift/f |website=www.svenskakyrkan.se |publisher=Church of Sweden |access-date=12 January 2019}}{{cite web |title=Visby stifts indelning 2018 |url=https://www.svenskakyrkan.se/default.aspx?id=1714164 |website=www.svenskakyrkan.se |publisher=Church of Sweden |access-date=12 January 2019}}
