Gone Fishin' is the second studio album by San Francisco-based punk rock band Flipper, released in 1984 by Subterranean Records.{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=4ufUBAAAQBAJ&q=Gone+Fishin%27+%28Flipper+album%29+1984&pg=PA112|title=Gimme Indie Rock: 500 Essential American Underground Rock Albums 1981-1996|first=Andrew|last=Earles|date=September 15, 2014|publisher=Voyageur Press|isbn=9780760346488|via=Google Books}} The album's artwork featured a depiction of Flipper's tour van as a ready-to-cut-out-and-assemble centerpiece, with similar cutouts of the four band members on the back cover. At the time of the album's release, Subterranean offered extra empty covers of the album by mail order for $2 for those Flipper fans that wanted to have a cover to cut up and assemble. The album was reissued by Water Records on December 9, 2008, for the first time on CD, with liner notes provided by Buzz Osborne of the Melvins.

Critical reception

Trouser Press wrote that "if you want to understand [Flipper's] creative mind, Gone Fishin’ is the ideal synthesis of sickness and health."{{cite web |title=Flipper |url=https://trouserpress.com/reviews/flipper/ |website=Trouser Press |accessdate=3 August 2020}} The Rough Guide to Rock opined that "only The Stooges' Funhouse comes close to the demented wonder of this record."{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=7ctjc6UWCm4C&q=Gone+Fishin%27+%28Flipper+album%29+1984&pg=PP391|title=The Rough Guide to Rock|first=Peter|last=Buckley|date=August 3, 2003|publisher=Rough Guides|isbn=9781843531050|via=Google Books}} Spin wrote, "Crawling guitar drones and tuneless, barely tonal ramblings. A semi-anaesthetized tortoise could play faster than these four San Francisco snivellers, who tackle boredom and the meaning of life."{{cite magazine| magazine= Spin | title=Underground|author=Andrea Enthal| date=July 1985|issue=3|page=36}}
