It is particularly enjoyed by giant eland (Taurotragus derbianus) and domestic goats (Capra aegagrus hircus). Caterpillars of Anaphe reticulata have been found to feed on the foliage.{{cite journal |last1=Scholtz |first1=Clarke H. |last2=Holm |first2=Erik |title=Trophic ecology of Lepidoptera larvae associated with wooded vegetation in a Savanna Ecosystem, Savanna Ecosystem Project (National Programme for Environmental Sciences, Nylsvley Study Area) |journal=South African National Scientific Reports |date=June 1982 |issue=55 |page=19 |url= http://researchspace.csir.co.za/dspace/bitstream/handle/10204/2199/Trophic%20ecology%20of%20Lepidoptera%20larvae%20associated%20with%20woody%20vegetation%20in%20a%20Savanna%20Ecosystem.pdf |access-date=27 May 2023}}
