Hanwell is an incorporated rural community and former local service district within Kingsclear Parish in York County, New Brunswick, Canada. It is located on Route 640 immediately southwest of Fredericton.

History

Hanwell was named by Thomas Baillie, who was born at Hanwell, West London, England. Originally a local service district (LSD) and a farming community, two residential subdivisions were constructed in Hanwell in the 1970s.{{citation needed|date=May 2015}} The LSD was officially incorporated as the Rural Community of Hanwell on May 23, 2014.{{cite web | url=http://www.gnb.ca/0062/acts/BBR-2014/2014-30.pdf | title=New Brunswick Regulation 2014-30 under the Municipalities Act (O.C. 2014-81) | publisher=Queen's Printer for New Brunswick | type=PDF | page=2 | date=March 28, 2014 | accessdate=May 30, 2015}} Prior to official incorporation, the rural community's first election was held May 12, 2014. Geography

Communities within Hanwell include Birchwood Estates, Brookdale Gardens, Brookdale Subdivision, Cobblestone Estates, Deerwood Acres, Eagle Ridge, Eaglewood Subdivision, Greer Subdivision, Somerset Park and Starlite Village. Demographics

In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Hanwell had a population of {{val|4743|fmt=commas}} living in {{val|1799|fmt=commas}} of its {{val|1887|fmt=commas}} total private dwellings, a change of {{percentage|{{#expr:4743-4700}}|4700|1}} from its 2016 population of {{val|4700|fmt=commas}}. With a land area of {{convert|152.06|km2|sqmi|abbr=on}}, it had a population density of {{Pop density|4743|152.06|km2|sqmi|prec=1}} in 2021.

Attractions
