It is named after the Hemkunt Sahib, a holy place in the Sikh religion.

Traction
When train was started it used to get hualed by the WDP4-D of the Tuglakabad shed, but because of the electrification of the whole route it is now hauled by the WAP-7 of Ghaziabad shed.
