Plot

Set during the Great Depression, the film centers on an unlikely friendship that forms between Henry (Gary Farmer), an autistic adult with a childlike spirit, and his nine-year-old nephew Verlin (Keegan MacIntosh), who is also autistic. Henry helps Verlin to come out of his shell, but Verlin's mother mistrusts him, believing him to be dangerous. Henry's family eventually decides to institutionalize him and Verlin sinks back into himself at the sudden loss of his friend.{{cite news|url=https://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/thestar/access/518383891.html?FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT&type=current&date=Sep+14%2C+1994&author=Craig+MacInnis+TORONTO+STAR&pub=Toronto+Star&desc=Canada%27s+feel-good+film+belongs+to+Gary+Farmer|archive-url=https://archive.today/20130201045142/http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/thestar/access/518383891.html?FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT&type=current&date=Sep+14,+1994&author=Craig+MacInnis+TORONTO+STAR&pub=Toronto+Star&desc=Canada's+feel-good+film+belongs+to+Gary+Farmer|url-status=dead|archive-date=February 1, 2013|title=Canada's feel-good film belongs to Gary Farmer|date=14 September 1994|accessdate=13 December 2012|work=Toronto Star|author=Craig MacInnis}}{{cite news|url=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110013/plotsummary?ref_=tt_stry_pl|title=Henry & Verlin (1997) - Plot Summary|accessdate=13 December 2012|work=IMDb}}
