Hornby High School is a state coeducational secondary school located in the western Christchurch, New Zealand suburb of Hornby. It caters for approximately {{NZ school roll data|338|y}} students from Years 7 to 13 (ages 10 to 18).

History

The school opened in February 1975 to serve the growing Hornby area. The permanent classroom blocks were supposed to be ready for the first intake of 240 Form 3 (now Year 9) students, but delays within the Treasury and Ministry of Works saw the completion date pushed back to early 1976. As a temporary solution, the Canterbury Education Board constructed twelve CEBUS relocatable classroom blocksCEBUS stands for Canterbury Education Board Unit System at the eastern end of the school site. Most of the CEBUS classrooms are still present at the school, alongside the permanent S68 classroom blocks typical of 1970s-built New Zealand state secondary schools.{{Cite thesis |last= Williams |first= Murray Noel |title= Building Yesterday's Schools: An Analysis of Educational Architectural Design as Practised by the Building Department of the Canterbury Education Board from 1916-1989 |year= 2014 |publisher= University of Canterbury |hdl= 10092/9591 |oclc= 889975505}}{{cite web |url= http://www.minedu.govt.nz/NZEducation/EducationPolicies/Schools/PropertyToolBox/StateSchools/Design/EarthquakeResilience/~/media/MinEdu/Files/EducationSectors/PrimarySecondary/PropertyToolbox/StateSchools/Design/General/MOEstandardbuildingcatalogue_ReV1.2.pdf |title= Catalogue of Standard School Building Types |publisher= Ministry of Education |location= Christchurch |date= August 2013 |accessdate= 22 February 2015 |archive-date= 28 January 2015 |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20150128051636/http://www.minedu.govt.nz/NZEducation/EducationPolicies/Schools/PropertyToolBox/StateSchools/Design/EarthquakeResilience/~/media/MinEdu/Files/EducationSectors/PrimarySecondary/PropertyToolbox/StateSchools/Design/General/MOEstandardbuildingcatalogue_ReV1.2.pdf |url-status= dead }}
