Biography

Krichever was born in Kuybyshev to aviation engineer Moisey Solomonovich Krichever{{cite web|url=https://poisk.re/awards/1535538845|title=Награда Моисея Кричевера|work=poisk.re|language=Russian}} and Maria Leyzerovna Arlievskaya.{{cite web|url=https://www.mathnet.ru/php/archive.phtml?wshow=paper&jrnid=rm&paperid=10015&option_lang=rus|title=Игорь Моисеевич Кричевер (к семидесятилетию со дня рождения)|work=Math-Net.ru|language=Russian}} He received a silver medal at the 1967 International Mathematical Olympiad.{{cite web|url=https://www.imo-official.org/participant_r.aspx?id=10052|title=Igor Krichever|work=International Mathematical Olympiad|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20180304054915/https://www.imo-official.org/participant_r.aspx?id=10052|archivedate=4 March 2018}} He graduated from the MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics in 1972.

From 1975 to 1988, Krichever was a researcher at the {{ill|Energy Institute G. M. Krzhizhanovsky|ru|Энергетический институт имени Г. М. Кржижановского}}. He was then a senior researcher at the {{ill|Institute for Problems in Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences|ru|Институт проблем механики имени А. Ю. Ишлинского РАН}}. In 1990, he became a senior researcher for the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics. From 1992 to 1996, he was a professor at the Independent University of Moscow. In 1997, he became a professor at Columbia University in New York City, where he served as dean of the mathematics department from 2008 to 2011.{{cite web|url=https://mozzochi.org/Krichever/Photos.html|title=Conference in honor of 60th Birthday of Igor Krichever Columbia University, May 4-7, 2011.|work=C. J. Mozzochi}} In 2013, he became a professor at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. That same year, he became deputy director of the {{ill|Institute for Information Transmission Problems of Russian Academy of Sciences|ru|Институт проблем передачи информации имени А. А. Харкевича РАН}}.

In 2011, Krichever was awarded the Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" II class.
