In Between Evolution is the ninth studio album by the Canadian rock band the Tragically Hip. It was recorded at Studio X in Seattle and released June 29, 2004. The album debuted at number one in Canada,{{cite magazine| url=http://www.billboard.com/charts/2004-07-17/canadian-albums | title=Canadian Albums – Week of July 17, 2004 | magazine=Billboard| access-date=April 3, 2011}} selling 22,500 copies in its first week.{{cite magazine|url=http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/L/Lavigne_Avril/2004/07/14/746850.html|archive-url=https://archive.today/20130115083151/http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/L/Lavigne_Avril/2004/07/14/746850.html|url-status=usurped|archive-date=January 15, 2013|title=Avril knocks The Hip out of No. 1|magazine=Jam!|access-date=April 3, 2011 }} However, it got bumped off the number one spot by Avril Lavigne's Under My Skin. In Between Evolution was certified Platinum in Canada in September 2004.{{cite web |url=http://www.cria.ca/gold/0904_g.php |title=Gold & Platinum Certification – September 2004 |publisher=Canadian Recording Industry Association |access-date=April 3, 2011 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20101122123319/http://cria.ca/gold/0904_g.php |archive-date=November 22, 2010 }}

One of the major themes on the album is a response to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. "Heaven Is a Better Place Today" doubles as a tribute to Dan Snyder, a player for the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team who died in an automobile accident nine months before the album's release, and for young men being sent to war.{{citation needed|date=October 2024}}

The Hip performed a rough version of the song "It Can't be Nashville Every Night" on a season-two episode of the Canadian television sitcom Corner Gas, as a local band renting out main character Brent Leroy's garage for band practice.
