The training on how to safely conduct prescribed burns, seminars on local fire ecology, and tribal burning included Santa Barbara County Fire Department, employees of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, The Nature Conservancy, University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources, Vandenberg Space Force Base, scientists, ranchers, students, researchers, and land managers.{{Cite news |last=Fausey |first=Callie |date=2022-11-16 |title=UCSB Sedgwick Reserve Planned to Go Up in Flames on November 17 |url=https://www.independent.com/2022/11/16/ucsb-sedgwick-reserve-planned-to-go-up-in-flames-on-november-17/ |access-date=2022-11-18 |work=The Santa Barbara Independent |language=en-US}}
Ecology
Black abalone (Haliotis cracherodii), California’s state seashell and federally endangered since 2009, were successfully translocated to Dangermond Preserve's protected coastline in 2023 after their near extirpation by commercial and recreational harvesting, and withering abalone syndrome.{{cite news |title=Bringing black abalone back from the brink |author=Natalia Mesa |date=February 1, 2025 |newspaper=High Country News |url=https://www.hcn.org/issues/57-2/bringing-black-abalone-back-from-the-brink/?utm_source=wcn1&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2025-02-14-Newsletter |accessdate=February 15, 2025}}
