Insecurity
For almost a decade now, Jere had been an insecure location for Nigerians travelling along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway. In October 2016, the husband to a former Nigerian Minister of Environment, Lawrencia Laraba Mallam, was kidnapped in Jere.{{cite news|url=https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/former-minister-husband-whisked-away-gunmen/|title=Former minister, husband whisked away by gunmen|date=October 4, 2016|publisher=Ripples Nigeria|access-date=July 31, 2024}} There are instances where kidnapped victims pay huge ransom and still get killed.{{cite news|url=https://punchng.com/how-bandits-killed-ransom-negotiator-in-kaduna-after-delivering-n16m-resident/|title=How bandits killed ransom negotiator in Kaduna after delivering N16m – Resident|last=Ubanagu|first=Makua|date=June 20, 2024|publisher=Punch Nigeria|access-date=July 31, 2024}}
In May 2024, a Leadership newspaper reporter reported an investigation case by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), on the cause of the derailment of a passenger train KA2/loco 2702, travelling from the Rigasa train station in Kaduna to the Idu train station in Abuja. The derailment occurred at Jere, but no one was found to be injured in the incident.{{cite news|url=https://leadership.ng/nsib-begins-investigation-into-train-derailment-at-jere-kaduna/|title=NSIB Begins Investigation Into Train Derailment At Jere, Kaduna|last=Babalola|first=Yusuf|date=May 28, 2024|publisher=Leadership NG|access-date=July 31, 2024}}{{cite news|url=https://radionigeria.gov.ng/2024/05/26/kaduna-abuja-train-derails-at-jere/|title=Kaduna-Abuja train derails at Jere|author=Ossai, Chinasa|editor=Kucha, Muzha|date=May 26, 2024|publisher=Radio Nigeria|access-date=July 31, 2024}}{{cite news|url=https://www.tvcnews.tv/2024/05/abuja-bound-train-derails-in-jere-kaduna/|title=Abuja-bound train derails in Jere, Kaduna|date=May 26, 2024|publisher=TVC News|access-date=July 31, 2024}} While one possible cause of the derailment may be due to rail infrastructure vandalism, that may not totally be the cause of the derailment, according to an official of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).{{cite news|url=https://authorityngr.com/2024/05/26/vandalism-responsible-for-abuja-kaduna-train-derailment-in-jere-eye-witness/|title=Vandalism responsible for Abuja – Kaduna train derailment in jere – Eye witness|date=May 26, 2024|last=Uzendu|first=Myke|location=Abuja|publisher=The Authority|access-date=July 31, 2024}}
