Jersey is the debut solo extended play by American recording artist Bella Thorne, released on November 17, 2014 by Hollywood Records.
Background
In March 2013, Thorne announced she'd been signed to Hollywood Records, and began working on her debut album.{{cite web |url=http://www.disneydreaming.com/2013/03/29/bella-thorne-signs-on-with-hollywood-records/ |title=Bella Thorne Signs On With Hollywood Records |publisher=Disney Dreaming |date=29 March 2013 |accessdate=1 April 2014 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140313101343/http://www.disneydreaming.com/2013/03/29/bella-thorne-signs-on-with-hollywood-records/ |archive-date=13 March 2014 |url-status=dead}} On August 23, 2013, she discussed details about her upcoming album, telling MTV: "What fans can expect is [for it] just to be very different from anyone, because I don't like to be one of those artists where you can be like: 'Oh yeah, I know them from that song.' All my songs are very different from each other. So I don't want to be known as only one genre."{{cite web |author=dancingqueen219 says: I'm not a big fan of her music. |url=http://www.bopandtigerbeat.com/2013/04/bella-thorne-discusses-her-debut-album/ |title=Bella Thorne Discusses Her Debut Album! {{pipe}} BOP and Tiger Beat Online |publisher=Bopandtigerbeat.com |date=23 April 2013 |accessdate=1 April 2014 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140313114623/http://www.bopandtigerbeat.com/2013/04/bella-thorne-discusses-her-debut-album/ |archive-date=13 March 2014 |url-status=dead}}
Development
On March 28, 2014, Thorne announced her debut album would be named as the single, and confirmed it will consist of eleven songs.{{cite web |url=http://www.disneydreaming.com/2014/03/28/bella-thorne-hints-at-her-debut-album-title/ |title=Bella Thorne Hints at Her Debut Album Title |publisher=Disney Dreaming |date=28 March 2014|access-date=24 June 2015|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150626120613/http://www.disneydreaming.com/2014/03/28/bella-thorne-hints-at-her-debut-album-title/|archive-date=26 June 2015|url-status=dead}} In a Billboard article published on May 2, 2014, it was revealed that the album would be called Call It Whatever, and the release date would be June 24, 2014.{{Cite magazine |url=http://www.billboard.com/articles//6077286/disney-music-tops-interscope-album-market-share-avicii-armin-van-buuren-dconstructed-r5 |title=Disney Music Tops Interscope in Album Market Share, Enters the EDM Fray |date=2 May 2014 |magazine=Billboard}} Thorne revealed the reason why the album took so long was because "I really wanted to work on my voice. I never sang before, and I didn't want to put an album out that I wasn't proud of, or that was Auto-tuned or anything like that. I waited so that I could take a lot of vocal classes, so that I could work on my voice every day".{{cite web |last1=Lipshutz |first1=Jason |title=Bella Thorne Talks 'Call It Whatever' Single & Unfair Comparisons To Other Disney Stars |url=http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop-shop/6092216/bella-thorne-interview-call-it-whatever-disney-album-tour |publisher=Billboard |accessdate=2 June 2014}}{{cite web |last1=Firman |first1=Tehrene |title=Bella Thorne Refuses to Auto-Tune Her Music Like Other Disney Stars |url=http://www.j-14.com/posts/bella-thorne-refuses-to-auto-tune-her-music-like-other-disney-stars-38559 |publisher=J-14 |accessdate=28 September 2014}} Thorne described the sound of her album as a mix between R&B and electropop, citing as influences artists like Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, Usher and Miley Cyrus.{{cite web |last1=Lipshutz |first1=Jason |title=Bella Thorne Talks 'Call It Whatever' Single & Unfair Comparisons To Other Disney Stars |url=http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop-shop/6092216/bella-thorne-interview-call-it-whatever-disney-album-tour |website=billboard.com/ |publisher=Billboard |accessdate=15 June 2014}}{{cite web |author=2 November 2014 16::29 |url=http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1722162/bella-thorne-debut-album-kesha-destinys-child.jhtml |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140212150503/http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1722162/bella-thorne-debut-album-kesha-destinys-child.jhtml |url-status=dead |archive-date=February 12, 2014 |title=Ke$ha Meets Destiny's Child On Bella Thorne's Debut Album |publisher=MTV.com |date=12 February 2014 |accessdate=1 April 2014}} In an interview with Access Hollywood, she promoted the project as very feminist.{{cite web |title=BELLA THORNE TALKS FASHION, DEBUT ALBUM AND FIRST BOOK |url=http://www.accesshollywood.com/bella-thorne-talks-fashion-debut-album-and-first-book_video_2384637 |publisher=Access Hollywood |accessdate=16 October 2014}}
About her first single, "Call It Whatever", Thorne said she purposely chose a teen pop song to make a connection between her Disney Channel audience and the urban audience that she wanted to reach and this was the album's only teen piece, while her next single would be focused on R&B: "'Call It Whatever' is my youngest-sounding song. This song is definitely for my younger audience. I don't want to eliminate them, but my album is geared a little bit older."

However, on October 15, Thorne announced that her full-length debut album would be scrapped in favor of an EP instead and the eleven recorded songs were archived.{{cite web |url=http://celebrityselfies.net/bella-thorne-instagram-so-excited-to-let-you-know-that-im-releasing-my-ep-jersey-on-1117-httpt-cokuxiokdxgc/ |title=SO EXCITED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I'M RELEASING MY EP #JERSEY ON 11/17 |work=Celebrity Selfies |accessdate=13 May 2010|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141020023246/http://celebrityselfies.net/bella-thorne-instagram-so-excited-to-let-you-know-that-im-releasing-my-ep-jersey-on-1117-httpt-cokuxiokdxgc/|archive-date=20 October 2014|url-status=dead}}{{cite web |last1=Van de Wall |first1=Virginia |title=Bella Thorne Announces Her New EP "Jersey" |date=October 15, 2014 |url=http://www.j-14.com/posts/bella-thorne-announces-her-new-ep-jersey-44383 |publisher=J-14 |accessdate=16 October 2014}} The following week, Thorne announced the official track list along with a preview of "Paperweight".{{cite web |last1=Hiramine |first1=Brie |title=Bella Thorne Announces 'Jersey' EP Tracklist |date=October 28, 2014 |url=http://www.j-14.com/posts/bella-thorne-announces-jersey-ep-tracklist-44933 |publisher=J-14 |accessdate=30 October 2014}} The EP was released on November 17, with no single released and soon after, Thorne announced her departure from Hollywood Records.
Only in April 2015, Thorne opened up for J-14 about the real reason her album never released: the album didn't sound like imagined and she wasn't happy with the "auto-tuned bad music", so Thorne realized she wouldn't be a great singer and decided to cancel the project.{{cite web |title=Bella Thorne Never Wanted to Be a Singer |url=http://www.j-14.com/posts/bella-thorne-never-wanted-to-be-a-singer-55126 |website=J-14 |date=April 2015 |accessdate=1 June 2015}}
