History
The station first signed on in 1994 as KGDP-FM with a rhythmic oldies format. By the end of the 1990s, KGDP-FM featured Southern gospel music.{{cite magazine |url=https://www.worldradiohistory.com/hd2/IDX-Business/Annuals/Archive-BC-YB-IDX/90s-OCR-YB/1999-YB/1999-BC-YB-OCR-Page-0519.pdf |title=Directory of Radio Stations in the U.S. |magazine=Broadcasting & Cable Yearbook |publisher=R.R. On March 24, 1999, KGDP-FM changed its call sign to KPAT. (Previously, the KPAT call letters belonged to a station in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, now known as KKRC-FM, from 1973 to 1994.) In November, Radio Representatives Inc., based in Los Osos, California, sold KPAT to American General Media for $900,000.{{cite magazine |url=https://www.worldradiohistory.com/hd2/IDX-Business/Music/Archive-RandR-IDX/IDX/90s/99/RR-1999-11-12-OCR-Page-0008.pdf |title=Cumulus Jumps Into Jonesboro In $26.5 Million Deal |magazine=Radio & Records |page=6 |date=November 12, 1999 |access-date=July 11, 2018 }}
KPAT adopted a rhythmic contemporary format in 2004.
On January 18, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., high winds in the Santa Maria area triggered a power outage that knocked KPAT off the air. The station resumed broadcasting one hour later under generator power.{{cite news |url=https://santamariatimes.com/news/local/week-s-stormy-weather-causes-local-radio-silence/article_2d9a4402-07f5-11df-acd9-001cc4c03286.html |last=Ramos |first=Julian J. |title=Week's stormy weather causes local radio silence |newspaper=Santa Maria Times |date=January 23, 2010 |access-date=July 11, 2018 }}
