History

=2005–07: Formation=

The members of Katzenjammer met in 2004 while studying at a private music school in Oslo.{{cite web|url=http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/culture/music/pop_and_rock/article879651.ece|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150528074142/http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/culture/music/pop_and_rock/article879651.ece|url-status=dead|archive-date=May 28, 2015|title=Ready for Anything|last=Fitzpatrick|first=Rob|work=The Sunday Times|publisher=News International|date=2012-03-04|accessdate=2013-02-26}}{{cite web|url=http://planetmusicreviews.wordpress.com/2012/03/25/the-interview-with-katzenjammer/|title=The Interview With … Katzenjammer|publisher=planetmusicreview.wordpress.com|date=2012-02-25|accessdate=2013-02-26}} The band was formed in 2007 while listening to Anne Marit Bergheim perform the song "Wading in Deeper" on the piano. They were brought together by a common feeling of being "the outcasts at the school." Katzenjammer felt that their music school didn't encourage originality, but "only wanted to teach what had been done."

The band is named after the Katzenjammer Kids, the oldest comic strip continually in syndication.{{cite magazine|url=http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1989458_1989457_1989441,00.html/|title=Top 10 Long-Running Comic Strips / The Katzenjammer Kids|last=Suddath|first=Claire|magazine=Time|publisher=Time Inc.|date=2010-05-17|accessdate=2013-02-26|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130225090452/http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1989458_1989457_1989441,00.html|archivedate=2013-02-25}} They chose this comic strip because they noticed that they resembled the characters in it.{{cite web|url=http://wearsthetrousers.com/2012/03/katzenjammer-interview-2012/|title=Katzenjammer interview • "We are always on the lookout for the missing piece in the puzzle"|last=Delaney|first=Karen|publisher=wearsthetrousers.com|date=2012-03-22|accessdate=2013-02-26|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20131211022435/http://wearsthetrousers.com/2012/03/katzenjammer-interview-2012/|archivedate=2013-12-11}} The term Katzenjammer is a German loanword that literally means "lament of a cat", and is used in Norway to describe low-grade music and instrumentation (which in Germany would be called Katzenmusik - "music by cats").
