History

Klosterstræde has existed since the Middle Ages. Its name refers to the Franciscan Friary which was located at the site from 1238. It was the most important Franciscan priory in Denmark but was destroyed during the Reformation. Klosterstræde was hit hard by the Copenhagen Fire of 1795.{{cite web|url=http://www.indenforvoldene.dk/klosterstraede.html|title=Klosterstræde|language=Danish|website=indenforvoldene.dk|accessdate=15 April 2016|archive-date=3 April 2016|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160403035322/http://www.indenforvoldene.dk/klosterstraede.html|url-status=dead}}
