Langarud is on the south coast of the Caspian Sea, {{Convert|58|km|mi|abbr=in}} east of Rasht, the provincial capital and {{Convert|14|km|mi|abbr=in}} east of Lahijan.{{Cite web |url=https://www.bahesab.ir/map/distance/ |title=Distance between cities of Iran |access-date=25 June 2024 |website=bahesab.ir |language=Persian}} One of the most important tourist attractions of Langarud is the coast of Chamkhaleh, located {{Convert|10.3|km|mi|abbr=in}} northeast of the city.

The old city is divided in two parts by Langeroud river. When Nader Shah was the king, Langerud had been one of the most important dockyards in the north of Iran.
