History
Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth were both raised in Norwich, in Norfolk. They originally met in reception class when they were four,{{cite news |title=Let's Eat Grandma's first interview – the story of two inseparable teenagers |first=Stuart |last=Stubbs |url=http://www.loudandquiet.com/2016/03/lets-eat-grandmas-first-interview-the-story-of-two-inseparable-teenagers/ |magazine=Loud and Quiet |date=March 2016 |access-date=21 June 2016 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160629093757/http://www.loudandquiet.com/2016/03/lets-eat-grandmas-first-interview-the-story-of-two-inseparable-teenagers/ |archive-date=29 June 2016 |url-status=dead }} and began making music together at 13. They originally began creating music as a playtime activity, with their first songs being titled "The Angry Chicken" and "Get That Leg Off the Banister". Their band name is taken from a grammatical joke meant to emphasise the importance of comma placement.{{Cite news |last=Phares |first=Heather |title=I, Gemini - Let's Eat Grandma |work=AllMusic |url=https://www.allmusic.com/album/i-gemini-mw0002935704 |access-date=11 November 2021 |quote=[A]nd their band name comes from the grammar meme that reminds readers of the comma's importance with results that are either sweet ("let's eat, grandma") or horrifying ("let's eat grandma"). |archive-date=12 November 2021 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20211112005920/https://www.allmusic.com/album/i-gemini-mw0002935704 |url-status=live }} They became members of the local Norwich music scene, before they caught the attention of the musician Kiran Leonard, who passed their work on to their future manager.{{cite news |title=Let's Eat Grandma: An Alchemic Pop Duo With an Unbreakable Bond |last=Gaca |first=Anna |url=http://www.spin.com/2016/06/lets-eat-grandma-interview-i-gemini/ |magazine=Spin |date=10 June 2016 |access-date=21 June 2016 |archive-date=20 March 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170320010035/http://www.spin.com/2016/06/lets-eat-grandma-interview-i-gemini/ |url-status=live }}
Their debut album, I, Gemini, is composed of songs that were mostly written when Rosa and Jenny were younger. These songs include singles "Deep Six Textbook", which is about playing truant, and "Eat Shiitake Mushrooms", which was inspired by some graffiti the girls saw while walking around town in Norwich. The album was released by Transgressive Records on 17 June 2016, and received positive reviews in NME,{{cite news |title=Let's Eat Grandma - I, Gemini Review |first=Ben |last=Homewood |url=https://www.nme.com/reviews/various-artists/16499 |magazine=NME |date=16 June 2016 |access-date=21 June 2016 |archive-date=20 June 2016 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160620163836/http://www.nme.com/reviews/various-artists/16499|url-status=live}} The Guardian,{{cite news |title=Let's Eat Grandma: I, Gemini review – creepily catchy outsider pop |first=Gwilym |last=Mumford |url=https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/jun/16/lets-eat-grandma-i-gemini-review |newspaper=The Guardian |date=16 June 2016 |access-date=21 June 2016 |archive-date=25 April 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170425123040/https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/jun/16/lets-eat-grandma-i-gemini-review |url-status=live}} Pitchfork,{{Cite web |url=https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/22029-i-gemini/ |title=Let's Eat Grandma: I, Gemini Album Review {{!}} Pitchfork |last=Reyes-Kulkarni |first=Saby |date=30 June 2016 |website=Pitchfork |language=en |access-date=20 April 2018 |archive-date=20 April 2018 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180420135950/https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/22029-i-gemini/ |url-status=live}} and Q.
