Leukocyte receptor tyrosine kinase
{{Short description|Enzyme found in humans}}
{{Infobox_gene}}
Leukocyte receptor tyrosine kinase is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the LTK gene.{{cite journal | vauthors = Maru Y, Hirai H, Takaku F | title = Human ltk: gene structure and preferential expression in human leukemic cells | journal = Oncogene Res | volume = 5 | issue = 3 | pages = 199–204 | date = May 1990 | pmid = 2320375 }}{{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: LTK leukocyte tyrosine kinase| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=4058}}
Function
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the ALK/LTK receptor family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) whose ligand is unknown.{{cite journal | vauthors = Lopes SS, Yang X, Müller J, Carney TJ, McAdow AR, Rauch GJ, Jacoby AS, Hurst LD, Delfino-Machín M, Haffter P, Geisler R, Johnson SL, Ward A, Kelsh RN | title = Leukocyte tyrosine kinase functions in pigment cell development | journal = PLOS Genet. | volume = 4 | issue = 3 | pages = e1000026 | year = 2008 | pmid = 18369445 | pmc = 2265441 | doi = 10.1371/journal.pgen.1000026 | doi-access = free }} Closely related to the insulin receptor family of RTKs. Tyrosine-specific phosphorylation of proteins is a key to the control of diverse pathways leading to cell growth and differentiation. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
Interactions
LTK has been shown to interact with IRS-1, Shc, and PIK3R1.{{cite journal | vauthors = Kozutsumi H, Toyoshima H, Hagiwara K, Yazaki Y, Hirai H | title = Human ltk receptor tyrosine kinase binds to PLC-gamma 1, PI3-K, GAP and Raf-1 in vivo | journal = Oncogene | volume = 9 | issue = 10 | pages = 2991–8 | date = October 1994 | pmid = 8084603 }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Ueno H, Honda H, Nakamoto T, Yamagata T, Sasaki K, Miyagawa K, Mitani K, Yazaki Y, Hirai H | title = The phosphatidylinositol 3' kinase pathway is required for the survival signal of leukocyte tyrosine kinase | journal = Oncogene | volume = 14 | issue = 25 | pages = 3067–72 | date = June 1997 | pmid = 9223670 | doi = 10.1038/sj.onc.1201153 | doi-access = free }}
