The Libertarian Party of New Brunswick is a provincial political party in the Canadian province of New Brunswick which adheres to the general principles of libertarianism to "significantly cut taxes and reduce the size of government".{{cite news |last1=Moore |first1=Nick |title=N.B. parties outside the legislature seek election night breakthrough |url=https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/more/n-b-parties-outside-the-legislature-seek-election-night-breakthrough-1.7077940 |access-date=October 22, 2024 |work=CTV News |date=October 17, 2024}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.electionsnb.ca/content/enb/en/parties_assoc/rpp.html|title=Registered Political Parties - Elections NB|first=Canada|last=Elections New Brunswick|date=February 5, 2014|website=www.electionsnb.ca}} It was formed in the months prior to the 2024 New Brunswick general election, with party leader Keith Tays saying ""I don't expect to win any seats this early on just because we've had so little time to get the word out."{{cite web | last=Huras | first=Adam | title=New political party registers in N.B. ahead of provincial election | website=Telegraph-Journal | date=2024-08-06 | url=https://tj.news:443/new-brunswick/new-political-party-registers-in-new-brunswick-ahead-of-provincial-election | access-date=2024-08-18}}{{Cite web|url=https://tj.news/new-brunswick/two-more-political-parties-register-in-new-brunswick|title=Two more political parties register in New Brunswick {{pipe}} Telegraph-Journal}}{{cite news |last1=Poitras |first1=Jacques |title=N.B. election campaign kicking off for Oct. 21 vote |url=https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/new-brunswick-election-starts-1.7327170 |access-date=October 22, 2024 |work=CBC News |date=September 19, 2024}}

The party advocates for free market growth, and "reducing the size and intrusiveness of government, cutting and eliminating taxes at every opportunity, and allowing peaceful, honest people to offer their goods and services without inappropriate interference from the government", specifically referencing a proposed provincial police force, a provincial referendum to determine the breadth of issues like abortion, school choice and self-defence.{{cite web | last=Boudreau | first=Alexandre | title=Le Parti de la responsabilité individuelle voit le jour au N.-B. | website=Acadie Nouvelle | date=2024-08-09 | url=https://www.acadienouvelle.com/actualites/2024/08/09/le-parti-de-la-responsabilite-individuelle-voit-le-jour-au-n-b/ | language=fr | access-date=2024-08-18}} Leader Keith Tays indicated that many of the initial party members had also opposed lockdowns and mandates during Covid-19.{{cite news |title=Once-mighty People's Alliance faces crowded field on the populist right |url=https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/peoples-alliance-election-nb-2024-1.7348847 |access-date=October 22, 2024 |work=CBC News |date=October 11, 2024}}

The party identifies as neither left-wing nor right-wing, noting its mandate is to "take power away from government because it's not the role of government to interfere in people's lives and people's businesses...we're talking about cutting government in half".{{cite news |last1=Cammarano |first1=Frédéric |title=Des partis de droite cherchent à chauffer les conservateurs dans leurs châteaux forts |url=https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/2112484/elections-nb-alliance-gens-libertarien |access-date=October 22, 2024 |work=ICI Nouveau-Brunswick |publisher=CBC/Radio-Canada |date=October 16, 2024}}{{cite news |title=Élections provinciales : les tiers partis courtisent une partie de l'électorat ... |url=https://ici.radio-canada.ca/info/videos/1-10199146/elections-provinciales-tiers-partis-courtisent-une-partie-electorat-conservateur |access-date=October 22, 2024 |work=Le téléjournal Acadie |publisher=CBC/Radio-Canada |date=October 15, 2024}} However, they have been described by CBC News as being on the "populist right" and by the Telegraph-Journal as being on the "political right".

2024 general election

In 2024, Libertarian Party fielded 18 candidates, winning 0.5% of the popular vote overall, behind the Liberals, Progressive Conservatives, Greens, NDP, and People's Alliance, and placed last in each riding contested by the party. Individual candidates received from 0.6% to 1.9% of the vote in their constituencies.{{cite news |title=N.B. The election guide for the University of New Brunswick student newspaper, The Baron, described the Libertarian Party as "radically different...as they believe in a form of government that holds limited power, especially over one's wallet, body, and mind, meaning the government should hold the most power on a local level."{{cite news |last1=Foley |first1=Will |title=Navigating the 2024 Provincial Election : A Guide |url=https://thebaron.ca/2024/10/17/navigating-the-2024-provincial-election-a-guide/ |access-date=October 22, 2024 |work=The Baron |publisher=The Baron - UNBSJ's Independent Student Press |date=October 17, 2024}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.acadienouvelle.com/actualites/2024/10/08/huit-partis-sur-les-bulletins-de-vote-une-premiere-depuis-les-annees-60/|title=Huit partis sur les bulletins de vote: une première depuis les années 60|first=Jean-François|last=Boisvert|date=October 8, 2024}} In an editorial, the Telegraph-Journal daily newspaper welcomed the creation of the party prior to the election, while not endorsing it, calling it "a necessary balance on the political right" to the social conservativism of the Progressive Conservatives under Premier Blaine Higgs.{{cite news |title=Editorial: Libertarian ideas welcome in N.B. debates |url=https://tj.news/new-brunswick/editorial-libertarian-ideas-welcome-in-n-b-debates |access-date=October 22, 2024 |work=Telegraph-Journal |date=August 8, 2024}}
