History

Liechtenstein did not have a women's national team by 2006 at either the senior or youth level. In 2013, President of the Liechtenstein Football Association (LIV) Matthias Voigt said he was committed to working on the creation of a women's national team, and pointed to the activity level in the women's domestic competition.{{Cite news|url=http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2013/10/06/cf-head-of-liechtenstein-fa-outlines-the-way-forward-towards-suc/|title=Head of Liechtenstein FA outlines the way forward towards success|last=Farrell|first=Callum|work=Here Is The City|access-date=24 January 2020|date=6 October 2013|archive-date=6 December 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171206140000/http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2013/10/06/cf-head-of-liechtenstein-fa-outlines-the-way-forward-towards-suc/|url-status=dead}} Despite this comment, the federation had no staff dedicated to women's football as of 2017 and also did not have a women's football committee. Inclusion of women in governance was also limited, with only one woman serving on a committee and only five women serving in managerial positions within the organization.{{cite web|url=https://www.fifa.com/worldranking/rankingtable/women/index.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20111008164448/http://www.fifa.com/worldranking/rankingtable/women/index.html |url-status=dead |archive-date=8 October 2011 |title=The FIFA Women's World Ranking |publisher=FIFA.com |date=13 December 2019 |accessdate=24 January 2020}} Progress on the development front as a result of activities by the LFV were part of the reason that Radio Liechtenstein cited in September 2017 the time to create a senior women's national team.{{Cite news|url=http://85.31.153.72/audioarchiv/2017/09/21/2017-09-21_071301.mp3|title=Frauenfussball wird immer populärer|date=21 September 2017|work=Radio Liechtenstein|language=de|access-date=24 January 2020|archive-date=4 January 2018|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180104013849/http://85.31.153.72/audioarchiv/2017/09/21/2017-09-21_071301.mp3|url-status=dead}}
