Adult Contemporary is a chart published by Billboard ranking the top-performing songs in the United States in the adult contemporary music (AC) market. In 2013, 11 different songs topped the chart in 52 issues of the magazine, based on weekly airplay data from radio stations compiled by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems.
On the first chart of the year, the number one position was held by Rod Stewart with "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!", the song's fifth consecutive week at number one. The following week, it was displaced from the top spot by "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye featuring Kimbra, which returned to the top of the chart having had a lengthy run at number one the previous year.{{Cite magazine|url=https://www.billboard.com/archive/charts/2012/adult-contemporary|title=Adult Contemporary - 2012 Archive|magazine=Billboard|accessdate=September 20, 2019}} The song was replaced atop the chart in the issue of Billboard dated February 2 by "Home" by Phillip Phillips, the winner of the eleventh season of American Idol.{{Cite web|url=https://www.allmusic.com/artist/phillip-phillips-mn0002944976/biography|title=Phillip Phillips Biography & History|first=Matt|last=Collar|publisher=AllMusic|accessdate=September 20, 2019}} The song, originally released the previous June, took more than 20 weeks to reach the top of the AC chart, but once it got to the top it held the number one position for 12 weeks, the longest unbroken run of the year. It went on to become the biggest-selling "coronation song" released by an American Idol winner to date.{{cite news |url=http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-extra-american-idol-top-dozen-171239977.html |title=Chart Watch Extra: Phillip Phillips' Idol Record |first=Paul|last=Grein |work=Chart Watch |publisher= Yahoo! In October, actress Anna Kendrick topped the chart with "Cups (Pitch Perfect{{'}}s When I'm Gone)". The song became a surprise radio hit when the one-minute fragment which she performed in the film Pitch Perfect, accompanying herself only by clapping and tapping a plastic cup, was remixed and released as a full-length single.{{Cite web|url=https://www.glamour.com/story/anna-kendrick-cups-performance-in-pitch-perfect-almost-didnt-happen|title=Anna Kendrick's Iconic 'Cups' Performance in 'Pitch Perfect' Almost Didn't Happen|first=Christopher|last=Rosa|date=December 17, 2019|accessdate=September 20, 2019|work=Glamour}}{{cite magazine|url=https://ew.com/article/2013/04/15/anna-kendrick-cups-music-video/|title=Anna Kendrick mugs her way through a diner in new 'Cups' video|first=Grady|last=Smith|magazine=Entertainment Weekly|date=April 15, 2013|accessdate=September 20, 2019}}{{cite magazine|url=https://entertainment.time.com/2013/08/16/the-songs-of-summer-2013/slide/no-9-cups-pitch-perfects-when-im-gone-anna-kendrick/|title=The Songs of Summer 2013: No. 9 – "Cups" (Pitch Perfect's "When I'm Gone"), Anna Kendrick|first=Douglas|last=Wolk|magazine=Time|date=August 15, 2013|access-date=September 20, 2019}} It topped the AC chart for three weeks before being displaced by Katy Perry's "Roar".
