Moneyball is a 2011 American sports drama film directed by Bennett Miller. The film features Brad Pitt in the lead role, who also co-produced it, with Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Chris Pratt playing supporting roles. Based on the 2003 nonfiction book of the same name by Michael Lewis, the film focuses on the 2002 season of the Oakland Athletics baseball team. The team's general manager Billy Beane (Pitt), and assistant general manager Peter Brand (Hill), decide to build the team by opting for a sabermetric approach to selecting players. The screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian, while Stan Chervin wrote the story.{{cite news|url=https://www.theguardian.com/film/2011/nov/27/moneyball-review-brad-pitt-baseball|title=Moneyball – review|last=French|first=Philip|authorlink=Philip French|work=The Guardian|date=November 27, 2011|access-date=November 19, 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171119160620/https://www.theguardian.com/film/2011/nov/27/moneyball-review-brad-pitt-baseball|archive-date=November 19, 2017|url-status=live}}{{cite web|url=https://variety.com/2011/film/markets-festivals/moneyball-1117946003/|title=Moneyball|work=Variety|last=Debruge|first=Peter|date=September 8, 2011|access-date=November 19, 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171119160706/http://variety.com/2011/film/markets-festivals/moneyball-1117946003/|archive-date=November 19, 2017|url-status=live}}
