Route 59 was introduced in 1999 in order to replace part of route 109 and also provide a service between Streatham and Euston station. It was and still is contracted to Arriva London.[http://www.busesatwork.co.uk/Routes/059-3.htm Route 59 (third)] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080514034656/http://www.busesatwork.co.uk/Routes/059-3.htm |date=14 May 2008 }} busesatwork.co.uk

On 10 November 2007 the route was extended from Euston to King's Cross. The move, which was intended to provide a direct link between Waterloo and St Pancras stations, coincided with the relocation of the Eurostar terminal.[http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/archive/6292.aspx Route 59 extended to St Pancras and King's Cross] Transport for London 30 October 2007
