The Luanda Light Rail is a proposed light rail line to be built in the Angolan capital city Luanda.
History
In 2020, the proposal for a light rail network in Luanda was announced, with construction proposed to begin that same year. German transport company Siemens Mobility signed a memorandum of understanding with the Angolan government in early 2020 to begin building the {{convert|149|km|mi|abbr=on}} network under a public private partnership.{{cite web|url= http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2020-02/08/c_138766211.htm|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20220712011820/http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2020-02/08/c_138766211.htm|url-status= dead|archive-date= July 12, 2022|title= German transportation company to build Luanda Surface Metro |website=Xinhua|date=8 February 2020|accessdate=15 March 2020}}
The network was proposed to serve the main axis of the city; from the Port of Luanda to Cacuaco, Avenida Fidel Castro Ruz-Benfica, Port of Luanda - Largo da Independência and Cidade do Kilamba - 1º de Maio.{{cite web|url= https://www.diarioimobiliario.pt/Actualidade/Internacional/Metro-de-superficie-de-Luanda-arranca-com-149-km|title=Metro de superfície de Luanda arranca com 149 km|website=Diário Imobilário|date=8 November 2019|accessdate=15 March 2020|lang=Portuguese}}
The initial {{convert|37|km|mi|1|abbr=on}}, named the Yellow Line, was proposed to link Port of Luanda with Kilamba via Quatro de Fevereiro Airport, Unidade Operativo de Luanda and Sapú.{{cite web|url=https://vanguarda.co.ao/economia/metro-de-superficie-une-porto-de-luanda-a-centralidade-do-kilamba-AY991288|title=

After many changes and delays, the current project, consisting of a {{convert|60|km|mi|1|abbr=on}} network is supposed to start construction in 2025.{{cite web | title=Presidente angolano autoriza despesas de 2,3 mil ME para 1.ª fase do metro | website=SAPO | date=2024-09-10 | url=https://www.sapo.pt/noticias/economia/presidente-angolano-autoriza-despesas-de-2-3-_66e02e8005cc77426dff5856 | language=pt | access-date=2024-10-05}}
