History

From 1818, John MacNider, the Scottish Seigneur of Métis started settling the area with Scottish immigrants.
The city has a borough named MacNider, named after MacNider's family. Its territory corresponds to the former (pre-merger) village municipality of Métis-sur-Mer (Metis Beach).{{mamrot|type=arrondissement|REC01}}{{toponymie|377250}}
The town was a popular summer vacation spot for wealthy anglophone Montrealers. At the end of the 19th century, they spent their time in Métis-sur-Mer to flee waves of cholera. At the beginning of the 20th century, they did so again to escape outbreaks of the Spanish flu.{{Cite web|title=À bras ouverts dans la distanciation physique|url=https://www.ledevoir.com/societe/579873/a-bras-ouverts-dans-la-distanciation-physique|access-date=2020-06-23|website=Le Devoir|date=30 May 2020 |language=fr}}
On July 4, 2002, the village of Métis-sur-Mer and the municipality of Les Boules merged to form the city of Métis-sur-Mer.{{cite web|url=http://stat.gouv.qc.ca/publications/referenc/pdf/modjuillet02.pdf |title=Archived copy |website=stat.gouv.qc.ca |access-date=30 June 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20061230022827/http://stat.gouv.qc.ca/publications/referenc/pdf/modjuillet02.pdf |archive-date=30 December 2006 |url-status=dead}}
