Magdalena Tulli (born Maddalena Flavia Tulli; 20 October 1955 in Warsaw, Poland) is a Polish novelist and translator, one of Poland's leading writers.[http://www.kosciuszkofoundation.org/EV_May04_8.html The Kosciusko Foundation] {{webarchive|url=https://archive.today/20040503153552/http://www.kosciuszkofoundation.org/EV_May04_8.html |date=2004-05-03 }}.
Life and career
Tulli has an Italian father and a Polish-Jewish mother, and grew up partially in Italy. She graduated from high school in 1974 in Warsaw and obtained a Master's degree in biology at the University of Warsaw in 1979. She then worked six months at the Henryk Arctowski Polish Antarctic Station. Tulli made her literary debut in 1995 with the prose poem Sny i kamienie.{{Cite web |url=https://culture.pl/en/artist/magdalena-tulli |title=Magdalena Tulli |website=Culture.pl |access-date=16 November 2022}} She is a member of the Polish Writers' Association. Her works have been translated into many languages. In 2012, she won the Gdynia Literary Prize for her book Włoskie szpilki ("Italian High Heels"). She translated a number of books including Marcel Proust's La Fugitive, Italo Calvino's The Watcher and Fleur Jaeggy's La paura del cielo.
